I have a passion for 8 and 16 bit devices that goes beyond nostalgia. I can understand what is happening at the hardware level and can fix almost every issue that emerges. As a hobby, I repair and improve old video game systems and computers.
Over the last decade, new Game Boy enhancements have rapidly emerged. Wearing my product manager hat, it is a great thrill to implement dream features in older tech. Also, this hobby has become a lucrative side hustle (especially during my time away from work). I wanted to share some of these projects here.
Evolution of GBC screen mods. Old LCD replaced with new LCD manufactured for a blackberry. A 3d printed bracket holds it in place. These modern LCD screens use adaptors made by various Chinese manufacturers. Milling an aluminum case to fit the latest screen tech. Milled case with 3d printed plastic part to implement power switch. These metal shells are created by an American company called Boxy Pixel So much better!
